Extreme-Unction – How to Move Into the Moment In 2013 ?

The start of a New Year is always an interesting time. It always seems to be a little bit quieter (it certainly is in London thankfully) and some of us may use that time and space to make resolutions or pledges for the start of a year or make plans for the months and year ahead.

For me this time of year is always fairly process oriented; I use it to do my accounts for the previous tax year and that it is a very clearing energetic process. It involves delving through diaries, emails, receipt and generally the past 20 months of my activities, and in doing that I am to indulge in numerous memories of classes, clients and trips and seeing what worked and what didn’t work. Usually it’s a deeply reflective practice on both a conscious and an unconscious level.  And within that practice, I am also able to cut any ties to anything that no longer serves me. I sense that particular part of the process as a way of bringing all of my energy back into the present moment and thus reviving it and myself for the year ahead. So doing the account rocks even if it is very time consuming!

We don’t necessarily have to wait until New Year or go an do our accounts to do that of course, as for many of us a method of this nature is an ongoing journey. By letting go and unplugging from anything to which we have an inappropriate or negative attachment is how we bring our energy into the present moment and thus how we live in what is referred to as the Now.

These “attachments” may be as simple as excess sentimentality to what has gone before or they may be something unhealthier; we may be talking about outdated thought patterns, uncomfortable memories, perceptions or belief systems that no longer serve us, or even people, places or events that are still holding our energy in some form or another. Basically anything that has a hold on you in a non-positive way – it drains your energy – simple as that. We need to let go of them to move on.

This process is the Extreme-Unction or at least my understanding of it. Extreme unction is a holy sacrament of the Catholic tradition that was literally an anointing of the dead, or the seriously ill, so that they could either pass from this life easily or hopefully recover. The

Spiritual teacher Caroline Myss describes this as a symbolic ritual that means “stop carrying or let go of your dead” and I completely resonate with that. The dead in this case being the metaphorical baggage that we pointlessly carry around with us, and that in real life blocks that prevent new Life coming in for us and prevent us being present.

Living in the Now, the present moment or whatever you want to call it is the foundation of every spiritual tradition, philosophy, religion that has ever been. The Tao is essentially the way to live in the Now; in the Bible Jesus told a parable about ploughing fields to refer to the present moment and to paraphrase a little the Buddha said “don’t pursue the past, and don’t lose yourself in the future” and you can find the same “philosophy” in different words wherever you choose to look.

The reason for that is simple logic; when you have energy stuck in the past or speculated into the future then you are not fully present. When you are not fully present then your connection to the Universe, Spirit, God or whatever is diminished and you are simply not realising your full potency.

When we do live in present time, or in the “now” then we are more mindful, we are more conscious of what is going on around us and we are effectively more alive and better connected to everything that is and synchronicities happen as often as words tumble out of your mouth. There’s another sound energetic reason and that’s as we become more present then we become more responsive to energy rather than physical matter (and that’s what 2012 was really all about). Responsive to energy means that we are more in touch with our intuitive selves, and we increasingly respond to “energy medicine” rather than conventional medicine which is the future of all of humanity. For those of you who experienced unusual physical pains or ailments during 2012 that mysteriously disappeared then this is just one manifestation of being more “energetic”. And being in the moment also means that effectively we free ourselves from being a prisoner of time. That’s how people get miraculous healings, that’s how life changing synchronicities happen, that’s why Buddha said “Change can Happen in the Blink of an Eye”  etc …

As most of you know I am big fan of Aura Soma and thus work with colour and observe what’s happening with colour in terms of myself and other people. And many people in the Aura Soma shop/my clients etc are either buying/choosing violet or clear. Now that’s interesting to me because the colour violet (and clear to a lesser degree) relate to the seventh chakra and they are about transmutation and letting go (and many other things). And the seventh chakra is where Caroline Myss equates the symbolism of extreme-unction…letting go.

So do it – it can be really simple…

Make a list of ho/what/where/whatever etc no longer serves you….and let go of it.

Get present and then move forward by doing a bit of extreme-unction

Or do your accounts

Love
